Why preparation matters
A bit of preparation can turn a good session into an amazing one. When you arrive with clear questions and context, your tutor can use every minute to help you move forward.
Before the call
1. Define your goal
Write down what would make the session a success. For example:
- Fix a specific bug in your code
- Understand one difficult concept
- Practice speaking for a job interview
2. Gather materials
- Links to projects, files or documents
- Examples of problems you're stuck on
- Notes from previous sessions (if any)
3. Check your setup
- Stable internet connection
- Headphones if possible
- Quiet space where you won't be interrupted
For technical details, see Video call basics.
During the session
- Briefly restate your goal at the start
- Ask questions when something isn't clear
- Take short notes so you don't forget key ideas
After the session
- Write down what you learned and what's still unclear
- Decide if you want a follow‑up session and on what topic
- Share feedback with your tutor — it helps them improve too
