Where XP comes from
XP on SkillSwap is earned almost entirely from live 1:1 sessions. The goal is simple: the more real learning and teaching you do, the more XP you collect.
XP per minute
XP scales with your actual session time:
- Teaching: currently 3 XP per minute.
- Learning: currently 2 XP per minute.
The system calculates how long your confirmed session lasted and then applies the appropriate rate depending on whether you were the tutor or the learner in that session.
Example calculations
- 30 minutes teaching → 30 × 3 = 90 XP
- 45 minutes learning → 45 × 2 = 90 XP
- 60 minutes teaching → 60 × 3 = 180 XP
Over time, these XP add up across all your sessions and push your level higher. There’s no separate “teaching level” or “learning level” — everything goes into one universal level.
When XP is added
- Only completed sessions count. Cancelled or declined sessions do not give XP.
- XP is usually awarded shortly after the scheduled end time once the system marks the session as completed.
Adjustments & edge cases
In rare cases (for example, technical issues or abuse), the SkillSwap team may manually adjust XP for specific sessions. Any such changes will be reflected on your Progress page.
Because SkillSwap is evolving, XP values or rules can be fine-tuned in the future. If anything important changes, we’ll update the app and this Help Center.
