Overview of payments on SkillSwap
Payments on SkillSwap are used to purchase Skill Points (SP) via one-time top-ups or subscription plans. You never pay another user directly — instead, you add SP to your Wallet and then use those SP to book live 1:1 sessions.
SkillSwap works with a trusted, PCI-compliant payment provider to process your card or local payment method securely. Card details are handled by the payment processor and are not stored in plain form by SkillSwap.
What you pay with
Available payment methods depend on your country and the current integration, but typically include:
- Debit and credit cards
- Some local or regional payment methods (where supported)
The final set of options is always shown on the checkout screen when you confirm a top-up or subscription.
Authorisation, 3D Secure and security checks
For your safety, some payments may require additional verification, such as 3D Secure (entering a code from your bank app or SMS). Whether this appears depends on your bank, card and region.
Taxes and fees
Any applicable taxes (for example, VAT) are shown on the payment screen before you confirm. The price you see there is the amount you are charged.
SkillSwap itself does not add hidden platform fees on top of what is displayed in the checkout summary.
After a successful payment
- Your SP balance updates inside the app.
- You may receive an email receipt for your records (from SkillSwap or directly from the payment provider).
- You can immediately use your new SP to book sessions.
If a payment fails
If your payment is declined or fails, you'll see an error message. Common reasons include:
- Insufficient funds
- Incorrect card details
- Bank security checks or blocks
First, try another card or contact your bank. If the problem continues, reach out to hello@skillswap.io.
Double charges or unexpected payments
If you believe you've been charged twice or charged an incorrect amount, do not initiate an immediate chargeback without talking to us — in many cases we can resolve it faster by reversing or adjusting the payment on our side.
Contact hello@skillswap.io with your email, payment time, amount and any receipt you received.
