What the match score means
Every person on your Matches page has a match score — a number from 0–100 that sums up how well they fit your current learning and teaching setup.
It's not a rating of their personality or skill level. It's a snapshot of how well your profiles align based on data.
Score ranges (at a glance)
- 80–100 — excellent fit, strong overlap and good conditions
- 60–79 — good fit, definitely worth exploring
- 40–59 — partial fit, may work for specific topics or times
- 0–39 — low fit, usually shown less often
What influences the score
The score is built from multiple ingredients:
- Skills overlap — your Skills to Learn vs their Skills to Teach, and vice versa
- Languages — whether you share at least one language
- Timezone distance — how easy it is to find shared hours
- Recent activity — whether they've been active recently
- Reliability & completion — whether sessions tend to happen as scheduled
Over time, additional signals (such as reviews and long-term engagement) may also be added to improve accuracy.
How to improve the scores you see
If your Matches page doesn't feel accurate, you can improve it by updating your profile data:
- Refresh your Skills to Learn so they reflect what you actually want right now
- Add at least one clear Skill to Teach if you haven't yet
- Make sure your languages and timezoneare correct
The matching engine will automatically recalculate and start showing you more relevant people.
Why some high scores are still optional
A very high score doesn't mean you must match with someone. It is simply a strong suggestion. You're always in control — you can choose who to message, who to schedule with, and who to ignore.
