Your safety during video calls

SkillSwap sessions happen in a secure, built-in video room designed to protect your privacy. You control your camera, microphone, and the flow of the conversation at every moment.

Your controls during the call

  • Turn camera on/off anytime
  • Mute/unmute your microphone
  • Share your screen only when you choose
  • Leave the call immediately for any reason

Tips for staying safe & comfortable

  • Join from a quiet, predictable environment
  • Don’t share personal contact details unless you fully trust the person
  • Do not allow anyone to pressure you into turning on your camera
  • Keep conversations focused on the learning topic
  • End the call if behaviour becomes inappropriate

Important rules

  • No recording — recording sessions without consent is not allowed.
  • No harassment or suggestive comments — immediate action may be taken.
  • No sharing of private data such as full address, financial info, or sensitive documents.

If something feels wrong

If you feel uncomfortable or unsafe at any time:

  • Turn camera off
  • Mute your microphone
  • Leave the session
  • Block or report the user after the call (see Blocking users)

Emergency situations

SkillSwap does not replace emergency services. If you believe someone is in immediate danger, contact local authorities right away.
