Why we track teaching & learning separately
On SkillSwap you can learn, teach, or do both. Your total XP and level combine everything, but the Progress page also shows separate stats for teaching and learning time so you can understand your journey better.
What you’ll see on the Progress page
- Total time learning — how many minutes or hours you have spent as a learner in completed sessions.
- Total time teaching — how many minutes or hours you have spent as a tutor.
- XP from learning vs teaching — a breakdown showing how much XP came from each side.
How it’s calculated
Every completed session is tagged with your role:
- If you requested the session, you’re the learner.
- If you accepted someone else’s request, you’re the tutor.
The system takes the session duration and adds it to your learning or teaching total accordingly. XP is then calculated using the different per-minute rates described in How XP is calculated.
Using these stats
- Balance your activity if you want a mix of learning and teaching.
- Focus on learning time when you’re in “student mode” and on teaching time when you’re building tutoring experience.
- Watch how both sides contribute to your single universal level.
