Why schedule from chat?

Most SkillSwap sessions start as a conversation. You discuss a topic, agree that a session would help, and then schedule it without leaving the chat.

Session requests in chat make this flow quick and transparent for both sides.

Creating a session request from chat

  • Open the chat with your match
  • Click the + button next to the message input
  • Select Schedule a session
  • Fill in the skill, duration and time, then press Send request

The request appears as a session card inside the chat timeline and also shows up in both users' Calendars (Requests tab).

What the other person sees

In their chat, they'll see:

  • A summary of the skill, date, time and duration
  • Buttons to Accept or Decline

When they choose, the card updates in real time and the status changes in both chat and Calendar.

Discussing changes

If the proposed time doesn't work, they can reply in chat instead of accepting immediately. Common flows:

  • They suggest a different time → you send a new request with updated details
  • They ask for a different duration (e.g. 30 instead of 60 minutes)
  • They ask for more context before accepting

This makes it easy to scroll the conversation and see what happened with each planned session.

Relationship with the Calendar

Every session request created in chat also exists in the Calendar:

  • Requests tab — for pending or newly created requests
  • Upcoming tab — for sessions that have been accepted
  • History tab — once the scheduled time has passed

Best practices

  • Agree on a time in text first, then send the session request
  • Clearly mention your goal for the call in the chat before the session
  • If plans change, cancel the existing session and send a new request instead of editing old details in chat only
