Before you start

You can join SkillSwap in just a couple of minutes. All you need is a working email and a password — or you can use Google to sign in with a single tap.

  • Email & password — the classic way: you choose an email, create a secure password, and log in directly.
  • Google (single sign-on) — use your Google account to sign up and sign in instantly, without creating a separate password.

Whichever option you choose, you'll finish by completing a short profile so SkillSwap can match you with the right people.

Step 1 — Go to the authentication page

Open app.skillswap.io in your browser. You'll see the welcome screen with two options: Sign In and Sign Up.

  • If you already have an account, use Sign In.
  • If you're new, click Sign Up at the bottom of the card to switch to the registration form.

Step 2 — Create your account

On the Sign Up screen you'll see four fields:

  • Name — how other people will see you inside SkillSwap (reccomended to use only first name).
  • Email — used for login and important account updates.
  • Password — choose a strong, unique password.
  • Confirm password — repeat the same password to avoid typos.

Fill in these fields and click Sign Up. If you prefer, you can instead choose Sign in with Google on the Sign In screen and create your account via Google single sign-on.

Email confirmation is optional — if you confirm your email later, it simply adds an extra layer of security and trust.

Step 3 — Complete your profile

After sign up, you'll be redirected to the profile completion screen. This is where SkillSwap learns who you are and what you want to learn or teach. It takes 1–2 minutes and it's required for good matching.

Required fields

  • Skills to teach — at least one skill you're comfortable helping others with.
  • Skills to learn — at least one skill you want to improve.
  • Languages — languages you can comfortably speak during a session.

Optional but recommended

  • Avatar — adds a human touch and builds trust. A clear, friendly photo works best.
  • Short bio — a sentence or two about who you are, what you're working on, or why you're using SkillSwap.

The more complete your profile, the easier it is for others to understand how they can help you — and how you can help them.

What happens next

Once your profile is complete, you're ready to start exploring matches, chat with them and book your first live 1:1 session.

You can always return to your profile later to refine your skills, update your languages, or adjust your goals as you grow.
