How reviews & ratings work

Reviews and ratings are designed to highlight tutors who consistently provide helpful, reliable and respectful sessions. As SkillSwap evolves, the exact interface may change, but the core idea stays the same: learners can share feedback after sessions, and tutors can learn from it.

When learners can leave a review

Reviews are only available after a session is marked as Completed. Cancelled sessions don't create review requests.

What learners can rate

  • How clear your explanations were
  • How well you listened to their goals
  • Whether the session stayed on topic and was useful
  • Overall satisfaction with the experience

How reviews affect matching

Over time, positive feedback can help strengthen your profile and may influence how prominently you appear in matches for certain skills. This makes it easier for active, high-quality tutors to connect with more learners.

Handling negative or mixed feedback

  • Look for patterns instead of single comments
  • Ask yourself what you could clarify better next time
  • Stay calm — even great tutors sometimes get tough feedback

If feedback ever feels abusive or clearly unfair, you can contact the SkillSwap team via support so it can be reviewed against the community guidelines.
