General FAQ

Here are quick answers to the most common questions about SkillSwap. For detailed guides, follow the links inside each answer.

Account & access

Do I need to pay to use SkillSwap?

SkillSwap uses Skill Points (SP) for sessions. You can earn SP by teaching and, depending on your plan, optionally top up with paid SP. For details, see What are Skill Points? and Top-ups & plans.

Can I both learn and teach?

Yes. Many users do both. You can add Skills to Teach and Skills to Learn in your profile and freely switch roles between sessions.

Where do I edit my profile?

Open app.skillswap.io/profile to change your name, avatar, skills, languages and more. See Profile setup for a full walkthrough.

Sessions & scheduling

Who sends the session request — the tutor or the learner?

Always the learner. The person who wants to learn a skill sends the request and spends SP. Tutors never send “teaching invites” — they accept or decline incoming requests. Read more in Requesting a session.

Where can I see all my upcoming sessions?

Go to the Calendar page:

  • Upcoming — confirmed sessions
  • Requests — pending session requests
  • History — past sessions

For an overview of how it works, see How scheduling works.

What if I need to cancel or change the time?

Open the session in your Calendar and cancel it, then agree on a new time in chat and send a new request. Learn more in Cancelling & rescheduling.

Skill Points, XP & progress

What is the difference between SP and XP?

Skill Points (SP) are used to pay for learning sessions.XP measures your long-term activity and progress (learning + teaching) and determines your level. For more, see What are Skill Points? and XP & levels.

Do I get XP for both learning and teaching?

Yes. Every completed session gives you XP whether you're the learner or the tutor. The breakdown is visible on the Teaching vs learning time section of your Progress page.

How do badges work?

Badges mark specific milestones, such as first session, consistency, total minutes, and more. They are unlocked automatically as you stay active. You can see them all in Badges list.

Safety & behaviour

What if someone behaves inappropriately?

End the call if needed, then block and/or report the user. See Blocking & reporting users and Reporting a problem.

Are sessions recorded?

SkillSwap sessions are not recorded by default. If recording features are introduced in the future, they will require clear consent and be explained in detail in our Privacy policy.
