How XP & levels work
SkillSwap uses an XP (experience points) system to show how much time and effort you’ve invested into learning and teaching on the platform. Every completed live 1:1 session gives you XP, and XP raises your level over time.
Your level is universal — it grows from all skills combined. Whether you’re learning English, teaching React, or doing both, everything you do contributes to the same overall level.
What your level means
- It’s a quick way for others to see how active and experienced you are on SkillSwap.
- It’s a long-term progress bar for yourself, beyond any single skill or badge.
- Some badges or future features may use your level as part of their unlock requirements.
XP → Level formula
SkillSwap uses a simple growth formula so that each new level takes a bit more effort than the last one:
XP required for level N = 100 × N²
That means:
- Level 1 → 100 XP total
- Level 2 → 400 XP total
- Level 3 → 900 XP total
- Level 4 → 1,600 XP total
- Level 5 → 2,500 XP total
You don’t have to remember the numbers — the Progress page always shows how many XP you’ve earned and how much is left until the next level.
Where to see your level
- On the Progress page — with a detailed XP bar and breakdown.
- In some parts of your profile or match cards, as a compact indicator of activity.
Does XP ever reset?
No. Your total XP and level are designed as a long-term history of your SkillSwap journey. You can change skills, pause, come back later — your XP stays with you.
